What Is the Windows
Registry and Why Does It Need Fixing?
Your computer needs to constantly access data that is spread across
your hard drive - often with a piece here and another piece being
somewhere else. Knowing where that information is at all times is
the task of your Windows registry files. Being able to move swiftly
from all data files for a software program and for normal computer
operation enables your computer to operate at peak efficiency.
The Windows
Registry Is Constantly Changing
Because data is constantly being changed - added or subtracted from
your computer, the Windows registry file has to constantly be
updated accordingly. Installations, downloads, preferences,
locations, and so much more are recorded in the Windows Registry
files.
When you boot-up your computer, the registry files are loaded into
memory and the computer operates from this data. Updated versions
are stored when you turn the computer off. In order to organize this
data for greater efficiency, it stores the various types of data
into hives. Hives are permanent parts of the registry and are broken
down into keys, sub-keys, and values.
The Registry File
Becomes Cluttered
The various actions being constantly performed by the computer
operator, such as downloading and installing and uninstalling
software, leads to broken pieces of files and extraneous files. With
time, there are quite a few of these unnecessary files that greatly
inflate the size of the Windows registry.
Windows Registry
Is Not Easily Edited Correctly
Before long these extra files and incorrect data starts to slow down
the computer and it does not run as smoothly as it did when you
first got it. Editing the Windows registry file should not be
considered an option simply because the whole system could be
rendered unusable if you tamper with the wrong data.
The best solution is to get a good Windows registry cleaner. These
software programs vary considerably in both cost and ability to
clean your registry files. Some of the free versions will only
identify the problems, but not actually correct them. Also, you
should not use a registry cleaner that will not first create a
Registry file Backup - just in case.
